A new all ‘green’ home for Vermont Sales

Vermont Sales building Corporate Park South, Randjespark Midrand

Vermont Sales new home in Corporate Park South Randjespark Midrand.

The new Vermont Sales premises incorporate a unique green element included into the three storey 5 500m2 complex, which is 40% larger than the previous building.

The brand new Vermont Sales head office, designed and built to particular specifications is a mere hundred metres from their previous head office. It has three floors to accommodate 44 blue chip brands from all over the world and well over 15 000 product line items.

The green element in the new premises sees all the windows being double glazed to control the temperature, added to this is a giant rain harvester that stores 180 000 litres of water to be used for the gardens and toilets. The building also includes light harvesters to reduce  day time use in conjunction with electricity producing solar panels. This is backed up with a stand-by generator in case of load shedding and power failures.

“We have designed the new building to be the perfect new home, both external and internal systems have been included to improve all our services. Internally, it will improve our time in picking, delivery and packing,” said Roland Hunt founder and owner of Vermont Sales. We now also have a huge amount of additional space. The new layout allows us to cut delivery times and distribute them to our customers so much faster. We also have ample space for expansion and can stock a lot more product than ever before. We are all delighted about moving in and are ready for the 2016 challenge that lies ahead,” said Hunt.

The official Opening Day for the new Vermont Sales head office was celebrated with their customers at a two-day function on 11 and 12 March where customers enjoyed a guided tour to experience the new operation.

Vermont Sales was a sideline operation, started by husband and wife, Roland and Mindi Hunt in 1985 to distribute power tool accessories to the hardware trade. The couple first traded from premises in Pretoria until 1993. The business then moved to Midrand and things started to happen quickly. Ryan Hunt, the son of Roland and Mindi, his wife, Inge and daughter, Angela then got involved too. Vermont Sales started to become a real player in the hardware industry, having added a number of world renowned brands to the range of products distributed. The company now has over 44 blue chip brands from all over the world and over 15 000 products in stock. The total staff complement is now at 197.

The Vermont Sales board and family team now also has Dale Engelbrecht as Commercial Director and Werner Henning as Financial Director who joined to complete the management team.

The steady growth necessitated a move to larger premises. Vermont Sales now employs a team of representatives around the southern Africa and the product can be found on the shelves of all major hardware stores, chain stores, leading independent hardware stores, tool shops, service stores and many industrial supply outlets.

“We are very proud of the fact that we still employ our very first driver and store man, our tea ladies have gone on to become our receptionists, clerks and telesales operators and stock-pickers are now merchandisers and sales staff. It has been very rewarding to see our people grow with our business,” said Hunt.
