AfriStar Awards hosted at Propak West Africa

Visitors wait to enter the previous Propak West Africa exhibition. The continent-wide AfriStar Awards will take place on 21 September 2016 as a part of Propak West Africa. The trade fair returns in less than three months to Lagos, Nigeria.

With more than 3 000 visitors expected, the organiser, Afrocet Montgomery, anticipates the expo to further extend its position as a leading industry exhibition in the region. This year will be the fourth edition of the fair and will take place from 20 to 22 September.

The AfriStar awards are designed to showcase the very best of the African packaging industry. Bill Marshall, a representative of the awards comments: ‘The main criteria for medal winners in the competition is the excellent application and execution of packaging that demonstrates creative design, marketing or technology applied to packaging produced in Africa’.

Educational opportunities

Over 90 exhibitors will be displaying their products and machinery across the two exhibition halls of Propak West Africa, including Snetor Chime, Global Sterling, Bry-Air and Krones. Alongside the exhibition booths, a high-level conference programme has been devised in close collaboration with public and private sector business leaders. The programme will be delivered by thought leaders within the industry through a combination of presentations and panel discussions on pertinent issues.

The conference has three core themes.

  • FoodPro will focus on the food and beverage industry through discussions on challenges, opportunities, automation and innovation in the sector.
  • Pro-Label and Pro-Plas West Africa will turn the attention to the plastics and labelling industry with talks on compliance, sustainability and the future outlook of the sectors.
  • Print Expo and Digital Print West Africa emphasise the printing sector with dialogue circulating around the changing face of the printing sector, new technologies and techniques.

Confirmed speakers from PZ Cussons, Ishida, Diageo and Krones will be joined by representatives from Coca Cola, Bank of Industry, Unilever and Pfizer. The programme will be completed by a roundtable discussion, which aims to consolidate a number of the issues brought up throughout the week and look into ways of overcoming them.

Propak West Africa is fully supported by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control Nigeria; the Chartered Institute of Professional Printers of Nigeria; and the World Trade Centers Association.
