Based on a random national sample of over 100 respondents comprising of CEOs, financial and HR directors, senior government officials and analysts for 2014, Aspen Pharmacare (Aspen) has been awarded the PMR Africa Diamond Award for corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the pharmaceutical sector.
In 2013, the company was recognised in CSR category with a Golden Arrow Award.
Receiving the award on behalf of Aspen, senior executive: trade development, Stavros Nicolaou, comments: ‘It is deeply humbling and truly an honour for Aspen to receive this award, particularly at a time when poverty and inequality are topical issues in our country. Aspen attempts to align its CSR initiatives with the socio-economic development priorities of our country with the specific focus around improving access to healthcare, building sustainable communities, developing women and youth empowerment and enhancing education capacity.’
Making a meaningful difference
The award will inspire Aspen’s employees to redouble their efforts in making a meaningful difference in South Africa and inspiring hope in those communities that are either voiceless or have severe resource constraints. ‘Our commitment is probably best illustrated through Aspen’s annual International Mandela Day initiative. Last year it included 58 projects in 29 countries and six continents and touched the lives of over 50 000 beneficiaries from historically disadvantaged communities,’ he adds.
The awards at a glance
The main purpose of the PMR Africa awards is to enhance excellence and set benchmarks. The awards are the culmination of a research process whereby companies and institutions are rated based on respondents’ perceptions with a focus on evaluating and measuring customer service and satisfaction.
