The BioLector® Pro is designed to perform high-throughput cultivation in batch or fed-batch mode together with online monitoring and controlling of the most common fermentation parameters.

The system is based on microtiter plate formats and operates with non-invasive, optical sensors. The disposable 48-well microtiter plate of the BioLector® Pro microbioreactor features online measurements of biomass, fluorescence, pH and DO and at the same time controls pH and feeding rates through micro-valves and micro-channels. These unique microfluidic components realise for the first time continuous feeding and pH control on a microtiter plate format. There are no tubings and no liquid handlers needed anymore; everything is part of the gamma radiated ready-to-use plate.
By using the microfluidic-chip technology an extremely exact and slow dosing down to 50nL can be realised. Two reservoir wells per four individually controllable cultivation reactors are available. All together 32 bioreactor wells and 16 reservoir wells are placed on one plate.
Due to the continuous and rigorous shaking during the optical measurements and over the whole experimental time it is ideally suited for aerobic cultures in high density. The massive acquisition of relevant bioprocess data allows precise and reliable bioprocess development, strain characterisation, media optimisation and clone screening in short time frames.
