Build It Convention 2022

Ready to roar – another ‘rip-roaring’ success

Finally, after three years of Covid related challenges, Build it proudly hosted its 2022 convention.

Whilst everyone had all been personally impacted by the pandemic, the Build it brand and collective has emerged on top. The success can be attributed to the combined power of the Build its retailers, suppliers and Build it. The steadfast foundation of teamwork, commitment, enthusiasm and passion and the annual Build it convention is core to this achievement.

Mr Build it 2022 – Riaan van Staden.

Build it launched in 1984 – starting out as cubs, with more sight than vison, surviving each day against all odds with nothing but instinct. Born for greatness, the growth journey began along with relationships, pride and vision.

To strengthen the Build it pack, it needed to be protected and nurtured. Now, in 2022, some 38 years into the journey, Build it is a fierce army of red that is ready to dominate and ready to reign and most importantly ‘ready to roar’ – the theme for the 2022 convention.

National Housebrand Supplier of the Year – Duram Smart Paint.

Day one saw the arrival of guests, delegates were treated to a trip down memory lane with a complimentary compilation publication of past conferences, parties and awards.

A welcome cocktail party at the Sun Park was enthusiastically received with entertainment provided by comedians Riaad Moosa and Schalk Bezuidenhout. During the opening evening, Build it recognised its pioneers – those members who have served the brand faithfully for over 20 and 30 years respectively.

Day two began with a work session. MD, Rob Lister arrived on stage in a Mustang  and started proceedings with an overview of Build it and its success over the past couple of years. Throughout his speech he highlighted the power of the Build it “Yes We Can” slogan and celebrated the fact that they remain the number one brand for building materials in Southern Africa.

Conference MC, Matthew Pearce introduced the themes for the remaining speakers. Matthew is a renowned rugby commentator and golf presenter on DSTV SuperSport. Having won numerous awards for sports journalism and TV broadcasting and having edited various sports journals he has become a sought-after MC to some of the biggest companies in South Africa.

The work session included the presentation of the PK Hughes, Ladder of Success, Hammer, Young Achiever and Store of the Year awards.

National Supplier of the Year – Swartland Investments.

The work session concluded with a motivational and energetic presentation by Max Moyo.

Max is a world-renowned speaker, author, brand specialist and human transformation coach. He seeks to motivate leaders looking to embrace their unique identity, and harness their unique talents, in pursuit of their unique purpose.

The day concluded with a Medal Paint sponsored Gala Dinner where retailers and suppliers were treated to a spectacular opening extravaganza and an incredible three course meal.

Two more awards were presented during the evening – National Supplier of the Year and the prestigious Mr. Build it award.

This concluded the formalities for the evening and all that remained was for Matthew Pearce to introduce his mystery guest – none other than Springbok coach Jacques Nienaber – and we were treated to a conversation between Pearce and Nienaber on his experience as Springbok Coach with inspirational insights into the British and Irish Lions tour and the challenges around the bio bubble and covid for the Springbok players

The last day was a day of leisure/golf for all and concluded with a fantastic Rock-it, a red fancy dress party in the evening with pop up food stalls and entertainment from two phenomenal South African bands.

Store of the Year – Build it plus Crown.
