Eight pairs of designers and homeowners have been selected as finalists in the Caesarstone Kitchen of the Year competition, placing them in the running to win two R50 000 cash prizes.
Kitchens from all over South Africa featuring Caesarstone surfaces, and installed in the past 18 months, were eligible to enter the Kitchen of the Year competition.
Finalists were selected based on photographs and plans supplied by entrants, identifiable only by a number given to each entry.
“The judges have absolutely no idea who designed or owns each kitchen entered,” says Caesarstone South Africa’s advertising manager, Lisa Aspeling. “It was a very exciting process to observe the judging team narrowing down the field of entrants in such a tough competition,” she says.
Bradley van den Berg (executive producer of The Expresso Morning Show), Bielle Bellingham (editor of Elle Decoration), Beth Haynes (two-time former winner of the Caesarstone Kitchen Designer competition), Mor Krisher (head of product design for Caesarstone International) and celebrity chef Reuben Riffel convened in Cape Town to select the top eight kitchens out of 127 entries in a blind judging process.
The eight finalists of the Caesarstone Kitchen of the Year competition are:
The winning homeowner and designer will win R50 000 each, while each of the top three finalists will take home a hamper from KitchenAid.The second round of judging will see the judges selecting their top three kitchens from the group, using video footage to enjoy more in-depth views of each kitchen design. The top three finalists will be invited to the awards ceremony in November at Tokara Wine Estate in Stellenbosch, when the winning kitchen will be announced.
