Decorex 2026: Embracing ‘The Soft Life’ in design

In 2026, Decorex Africa is redefining the design landscape with its theme, The Soft Life. This concept champions sensory comfort, intentional living, and wellbeing, framing comfort as a cultural necessity rather than a luxury. The theme mirrors a global shift towards slower, more restorative living, with design actively fostering this transformation.

A celebration of soft power in design

At its core, The Soft Life highlights the quiet yet profound influence of design through cultural exchange, collaboration and long-term relationships. Notably, this year’s theme was unveiled at the Women in Design event in Cape Town, which was hosted at the Anatomy Design showroom. Furthermore, the announcement also marked a significant milestone: Decorex Africa’s partnership with Maison&Objet Paris. In addition, South Africa has been named the Spotlight Country for the Rising Talent programme at Maison&Objet in September 2026, which serves as a testament to the growing global recognition of African design.

Immersive experiences and visual delights

Visitors to Decorex 2026 can expect a sensory feast. The event features immersive installations, curated experiences, and thought-provoking talks. This year’s visual theme is equally striking, blending earthy tones like clay, plum, coral, and sage with vibrant neons such as lime, magenta, and ultraviolet. This colour mix balances tranquillity and vibrancy, reflecting the essence of The Soft Life.
