The four featured projects in the June/July 2018 issue of Leading Architecture & Design all represent significantly different facets of what “leading architecture” might mean. Gateway West by Aevitas Group is a sculptural place-maker for the growing development at Waterfall City. The Norval Foundation in Cape Town by DHK, on the other hand, is conceived of more as a treasure chest to showcase the artworks inside it, rather than to make statement. Schulphoek House in Hermanus, by the in-house architects at the Culinary Equipment Company, pushes the boundaries of sustainable architecture, while City View House in Pretoria, by Mellet & Human Architects, is a pioneering exercise in reinterpreting Brazilian tropical modernist aesthetics for a local context. This issue also includes dedicated sections with useful news, features, industry updates, products and projects relating to sustainability, sanitaryware, roofing and cladding, and access control.
