Harmful effects of indoor and outdoor pollutants

The harmful effects of numerous indoor and outdoor pollutants are on the rise and are scientifically shown to cause significant damage to the skin. Vehicle fumes, cigarette smoke, particulate matter, heavy metals, harmful chemicals and other pollutants in combination with ultraviolet (UV) blue light and infrared irradiation is known to induce oxidative stress and a destructive chain of free radicals, leading to increased signs of skin sensitivity, premature skin ageing, skin discolouration, dryness, dullness, and roughness.

Additionally, it is predicted that 70% of the world’s pollution will live in cities by 2050. Urban pollution is on the rise with it being the number one public enemy endangering skin and our health. And therefore, protecting skin against environmental stresses has never been more important. Consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the damaging effects of pollution and are therefore seeking more advanced proactive skin protection.

Two new skin care innovations

Dr Des Fernandes, Environ Skin Care founder and scientific director says, “We are extremely proud to introduce two new skin care innovations to the South African market. It has been 6 years in the making and since 2014 we have reworked the formulae several times. We understand that pollution is unavoidable, and that the future of skin health requires ingenuity, science and innovation. We know that men and women out there are seeking multi-functional, science-based solutions to protect, reinforce and restore healthy-looking skin, and this is what makes our scientifically advanced anti-pollution innovations even more relevant and compelling.

“The solution for our consumers is not an all-in-one product as we found that we could not fit everything into one product. Our two newest innovations to the Environ family work really well together and are formulated to provide complete protection against the harmful effects of pollution. We are confident that our consumers will see results and are excited to hear their feedback.”
