Fry’s partners with Aardman and Chicken Run to launch new plant-based nuggets

Award-winning plant-based brand Fry Family Foods have teamed up with Aardman Animations and Netflix to celebrate the long-awaited movie Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget with the launch of an exclusive new plant-based breaded nugget.

Just in time for Veganuary, Fry’s new nugget will be available at Tesco, Iceland, The Food Warehouse and selected Spar stores from the 26th of December. The brand new nuggets are, like all of Fry’s products, 100% vegan.  Made from a mix of non-GM soy, wheat and pea protein, and coated in a crispy golden crumb.

“This is an exciting new nugget from Fry’s with a superior fill and a super crispy crumb. Our previous Traditional Chicken style nuggets were a firm favourite in the Fry’s range for many years, and as plant-based eating grew in popularity they became a staple in many households – but with new ingredients now available and new manufacturing methods our new nugget has brought the recipe right up to date with a whiter appearance to the fill and our crispest crumb ever. We’re sure this will be a family favourite from the start”, says Nicola Yates, head of marketing at Fry’s and LIVEKINDLY Collective in the UK.

“It’s a massive win for us to be collaborating with such an iconic movie brand, and the likes of Netflix and Aardman. We hope that bringing such an exciting collaboration to the meat free aisle will engage even more consumers to try plant-based this Veganuary and beyond. It couldn’t be a better fit for us – bringing out a new plant-based nugget just in time for those family movie moments watching the film. We really hope that this will encourage families up and down the country to try plant-based for the first time or swap out a few more meals,” she adds.

Lucy Wendover, marketing director at Aardman, comments:

“We’re delighted to be collaborating with Fry’s to celebrate the release of Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget on Netflix. We’re really pleased to have found in Fry’s a family facing brand to partner with, for a plant-based nugget which families around the country will enjoy while they watch the film.”

Fry’s new plant-based nuggets are launching into Tesco, Iceland, The Food Warehouse and selected Spar stores nationwide from 26th of December. Recommended retail price £3.00 (320g). The product will be on a half price promotion until the 15th of January in Tesco, Iceland and The Food Warehouse as part of an extensive Veganuary campaign.

Veganuary is an annual challenge run by a UK nonprofit organisation that encourages people to try going plant-based for the month of January.

Toni Vernelli, communications manager at Veganuary comments:

”We know that families are increasingly having conversations over the dinner table about what they are eating and why. We’re excited that the collaboration between Fry’s and the movie Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget during this Veganuary will bring even more awareness about the many reasons to choose plant-based and show families and parents that there are delicious options like Fry’s nuggets to make it easier than ever.”
