SA’s first female stockbroker, Ann Mackeurtan, together with her son Justin Mackeurtan, daughter Carolyn Langham, and three others from Momentum SP Reid Securities have joined PSG Wealth.
“After more than 40 years, Ann has left the stockbroking firm her grandfather started in 1938, and her father subsequently ran, to come into the PSG fold, and is now operating from our new offices in Hyde Park, Johannesburg,” says Dan Hugo, PSG’s chief executive of distribution.
Ann joined the family stockbroking business, SP Reid, in 1968 a year after she matriculated from Roedean in Johannesburg. She soon became responsible for running the back office and was involved in handling all client requirements.
It was as a result of her father’s death in 1974 that she decided to write the Stock Exchange exams, becoming the first female member of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, just one month after the first woman was admitted to Wall Street.
“We are delighted that this highly successful team has agreed to join PSG,” says Hugo.
Justin Mackeurtan, formerly COO at Momentum SP Reid Securities, will take on a client facing role at PSG. He and Carolyn were exposed to the family business from an early age, where they worked during school holidays. Both studied in the UK; he decided to return to SA and join the family business to pursue his passion for stockbroking.
Also joining PSG are Ameer Bhagarathi, who was in the back office at Momentum SP Reid and is now training to be a Wealth Manager- Securities; and Peter Kalamatas, formerly a portfolio manager at Momentum SP Reid.
