Lipotec, which researches, develops and manufactures innovative active ingredients for cosmetics, is debuting two new marine ingredients, Brighlette and Eyedeline at in-cosmetics Barcelona. Savannah Fine Chemicals distributes Lipotec’s products throughout southern Africa.
Even skin tone
Brighlette is a revolutionary brightening active that evens out the skin tone for a fair and radiant complexion.
The esthetic ideals common to most cultures evolve around a brighter and even skin tone for an attractive and young look. The main determinant of the colouration of the skin is the pigmentation provided by melanin. This substance protects the skin from UV radiation and also determines the tone and luminosity of the skin.
Unavoidable ageing and cumulative sun exposure cause alterations in the skin pigmentation which lead to the appearance of dark spots, irregular and darker skin tone.
The process by which melanocytes produce melanin (melanogenesis) and distribute it in the skin is complex and involves multiple steps. Brighlette marine ingredient acts on the various stages of melanin production and deposition in the skin for an integral and effective control of pigmentation. It regulates gene expression of melanogenic signalling proteins to decrease the formation and maturation of melanosomes, reduces tyrosinase levels and activity, and diminishes melanin uptake by keratinocytes. At the same time, it induces the expression of genes involved in DNA repair, which is necessary due to the loss of the UV-protective pigment. This multiple approach to decreasing melanin content allows Brighlette to reduce the size and contrast of dark spots, as well as increase skin brightness. According to Lipotec, efficacy was proven through clinical testing, showing a 61.1 per cent melanin reduction in hyper-pigmented skin at two per cent dosage.
Eyeing the benefits
This new and innovative biotechnological active, Eyedeline simultaneously tackles the three main problems of the eye area:
- eye bags
- dark circles
The eyes are probably the most important facial feature for transmitting personal beauty and attractiveness. The endless combinations of colours and shapes make the appearance of the eyes very distinctive from one person to the next, and are the defining feature of an individual’s personality.
The skin in this area is constantly subject to high levels of motion, including continuous eye movements, blinking, and facial expressions, like smiling or squinting. Consequently, one of the first places where visible signs of aging begin to emerge is around the eyes. Wrinkles, eye bags, and dark circles start to appear and special care needs to be taken to maintain a youthful, good-looking appearance and avoid an older, tired aspect.
Lipotec conducted a series of clinical tests at different doses to demonstrate the capability of Eyedeline marine ingredient in diminishing signs of tiredness and ageing in the eye contour. By reducing fluid extravasation, it can ameliorate the appearance of eyebags and dark circles that develop as a result of liquid accumulation.
This marine ingredient also enhances the degradation of bilirubin and contributes to reducing the vascular pigmentation that causes dark coloration under the eyes. In addition, the production of type I collagen and elastin by dermal fibroblasts is increased, reinforcing the dermis strength and elasticity and improving the skin tone and luminosity. Further, by decreasing damage caused by glycation, the functionality of matrix proteins is preserved, contributing to firmer, smoother skin and offering an added anti-wrinkle effect. An in vivo test showed great visible results in only 14 days using a four per cent application, and an 8.2 per cent reduction in the volume of the eye bags after 28 days.
