Morningstar Announces Agenda for Morningstar Investment Conference SA

Morningstar Research (Pty) Limited, a subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. (NASDAQ: MORN), a leading provider of independent investment research, has announced its programme for the Morningstar Investment Conference to take place on 12th October 2016 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. Mmusi Maimane, Federal and Parliamentary Leader of the Democratic Alliance, will deliver the conference keynote speech.

Every year, in 13 countries around the world, the Morningstar Investment Conference brings together local and international leaders, professional investors, academics, and financial regulators to share knowledge and ideas with the aim to ultimately benefit the individual investors they serve. For the fourth year running, the Morningstar Investment Conference South Africa has gathered esteemed contributors from South Africa and further afield, and is expected to attract more than 250 professional advisers and wealth managers to the event.

Keynote speaker Maimane’s presentation, “Politics and the Impact on the South African Economy”, will address the economic climate beyond the 2016 municipal elections and discuss the high and low road economic scenarios facing the country. Maimane will also look ahead to what South Africa needs to ensure an investor-friendly climate.

Ursula Marchioni, Chief Strategist, EMEA, iShares, on the growth of passive investing and its surge and insight into the future of the passives market;
Peter Kent,Portfolio Manager, Investec Asset Management, and Marie Atelme, Economist, Coronation Fund Managers, on the long-term implication of Brexit for South African fixed income, interest rates, and currency, as well as the latest steps towards structural reform and the economic outlook in a potential ratings downgrade environment;
Dan Kemp, Chief Investment Officer, Morningstar’s Investment Management group, EMEA, on how Morningstar applies its investment principles across its investment processes, insuring against common behavioural biases that can detract from the achievement of long-term financial goals;
Dr. Sarah Newcomb, Behavioural Economist, Morningstar, on what psychology can teach us about our habits with money, and the behavioural science tools advisers can use to help clients improve savings rates; and
Victoria Reuvers, Senior Portfolio Manager, Morningstar’s Investment Management group, on the importance of manager research together with a review of Morningstar’s five-pillar model to identify funds with the best odds of outperforming.
