AfriSlim, a new uPVC profile system for windows developed for the African continent, has been launched by REHAU, a leading global provider of polymer and composite products.

Designed in South Africa for the African market, the AfriSlim uPVC window system is affordable, durable and energy efficient.

uPVC, which stands for ’unplasticised polyvinyl chloride’, is extruded to create components for windows frames, and is especially effective when used with double-glazed windows. uPVC systems are renowned for their excellent thermal properties, which allows them to help reduce heat loss and generally improve the energy efficiency of the building in which they’re used. That means reduced heating bills and lower carbon emissions from burning less fuel. In fact, REHAU windows have the ability to meet the criteria for a Zero Carbon home (Passivhaus), which is the highest achievable standards in the construction industry at this time.

“REHAU AfriSlim 36mm profiles are made from a high-performance formula RAU-PVC 1476 to suit the most trying climate conditions, such as extreme temperatures or salt-laden sea air,” states Mark Stoltz, sales director for Southern Africa. RAU-PVC 1476 is resistant against the harsh UV radiation experienced in Africa, Asia, South America and the Middle East. The AfriSlim windows can be fitted with 4mm single glazing up to 18mm double-glazed Sealed Insulated Glass (SIG) units.

Durable and tough, REHAU PURE Line, a solution for developers who wish to combine economy with efficiency, is very durable and lasts many years, says Stoltz. With an expected life in excess of 20 years, and the capability of recycling all uPVC parts at the end of their service, REHAU windows and doors play a significant part in delivering a reliable and sustainable future.

REHAU uPVC window and door systems are also low maintenance, containing a unique compound resulting in a smooth gloss finish – guaranteeing they will retain their pristine appearance. Dust can simply be wiped off using a soft cloth, warm water and dishwashing liquid. It also means they will never warp, rot or need repainting.

They also offer noise-reduction benefits due to double sealing gaskets and glazing options. That means REHAU uPVC window and door systems will keep more of the outside noise outside to ensure a calm and quiet living space.

Given all these benefits, AfriSlim is not only perfect for ensuring the safety, comfort and style of high-end homes in South Africa and the rest of the continent, but also makes it the perfect window for the affordable housing market. AfriSlim is currently available in South Africa, Kenya and Ghana.
