MULTIVAC is now offering a packaging solution for filling water beakers, called the R 900, which produces up to 160 beakers per minute. Issuing ready-filled beakers speeds up the work of cabin personnel, for example in an aircraft, and also reduces the amount of empty packaging. So that passengers can open their drinks easily, the portion beakers are equipped with a thermoformed easy-open corner, which enables the upper web to be gripped easily and then readily pulled off. In addition to the packing of liquids, this new thermoforming packaging machine from MULTIVAC is equally suited to packing products with a paste-like consistency, such as yogurt in portion pots.
The R 900 in its basic configuration produces up to 160 drinking beakers per minute with volumes of between 150 and 200 millilitres. The beakers run through the line in five tracks and two rows. The HMI 2.0 control unit regulates MULTIVAC’s integrated water filler so precisely, that the fill level only deviates by a maximum of 1 percent from the target quantity. In order to minimise downtime due to film changes, the packaging solution operates with a jumbo film unwind for the lower web.
The complete cutting process is used for separating the portion pots, because it produces particularly clean cutting edges. The KPS 08 complete cutter used in the R 900 is equipped with integrated trim lattice cutting, so that the pack-trim falls through a trim grid into a container at the end of the line. Additional components, such as a boxing unit or direct web printer, can be integrated in the packaging solution for the additional processing of the beakers.
As the packing of drinking water is subject to strict hygiene requirements, the R 900 water machine is designed in accordance with the MULTIVAC Hygienic DesignTM, and it is very accessible for servicing and cleaning work. Its bevelled stainless steel surfaces, without niches and corners, are dirt-repellent and easy to keep clean. Even the water filler can be cleaned without dismantling individual machine parts. MULTIVAC has integrated its Clean-in-Place system (CIP) for this purpose. The fully automatic and process-controlled system cleans and disinfects even those areas in the interior of the machine, which are difficult to access, and it therefore provides perfect and reproducible hygiene.
In this way CIP offers the highest level of protection for the consumer, while at the same time significantly reducing the effort in terms of work and resources. The stainless steel or polycarbonate enclosure of the water machine can also be equipped with laminar flow, so that the ingress of bacteria and particles into the packaging area can be prevented. The film for the drinking beakers is disinfected with UV-C radiation before contact with the forming or sealing die, so that no microbes can get into the drink.
