At in-cosmetics Paris, UL (Underwriters Laboratories) presented its comprehensive ingredients database, Prospector. On 13 April, the company hosted its first ever innovation symposium to discuss supply chain information exchange.
Prospector enables manufacturers to access everything they need to know about personal care and cosmetics ingredients, both quickly and easily. Containing technical information on more than 20 000 ingredients from hundreds of suppliers, the Prospector search engine is said to speed up R&D processes significantly. Thus it provides a unique one-to-one connection between manufacturers and suppliers.
Technical information for industry
For the cosmetics industry, the database holds technical information on thousands of ingredients, formulations, applications, equipment specs and more. Formulating in the personal care industry means navigating thousands of raw materials and suppliers, from vibrant pigments and eye shadows to novel antimicrobial actives and deodorants. Prospector does this at the click of a button. The database is kept up to date by UL’s experts, so that users can be sure the information they receive is always current. As the industry’s leading search engine for technical information on raw materials and equipment, Prospector can help to get the job done faster.
‘Access to the website is completely free, with premium tools also available for purchase. Whether searching via the Prospector website or app for iOS and Android devices, users can find ingredients rapidly, and at the same time access comprehensive additional information such as technical datasheets, safety information, regulatory information, certification details and starter formulations,’ explains Henning Schwinum, MD of Prospector.
Bridging the information divide
Through Prospector, UL has a position at the centre of ingredients information and thus is an optimal partner for improving supply chain connectivity. Participants at the innovation symposium discussed solutions that can bridge the information divide between suppliers and manufacturers during the product development process.
The 90-minute programme also included input from Gattefossé, a leading personal care ingredient supplier. As a designer and producer of specialist ingredients and innovative formulation solutions, Gattefossé has first-hand experience of the challenges involved in exchanging information on ingredients amidst complex regulatory environments – and it knows how Prospector can help.
Besides introducing a range of innovative new and helpful tools, UL representatives also explained how the company works constantly to improve the flow of ingredients information.
