Painting need not only be a man’s domain as members of the new company, The Pink Painters, plan to show after receiving free training sponsored by SAPMA and Dulux, a member of SAPMA.
SAPMA recently provided free training for 10 unemployed women who are in the process of forming a paint contractor company to be called The Pink Painters.
The training was provided also as a SAPMA donation to the Kagiso Day Care Crèche and was handled by SAPMA’s training arm, the SA Paint Industry Training Institute (SAPITI), with Toni Stella, National Training Manager, Pogiso Matlala, Training and Development Manager and Terrance Mvundla, a qualified paint contractor who assists SAPITI on training projects, in charge.
Pogiso Matlala says the 10 jobless, but extremely enterprising, women from the Vosloorus area were trained on paint application for two weeks while giving the crèche a much-needed facelift with paint donated by Dulux. “The ladies fared extremely well and were very enthusiastic. They really rolled up their sleeves and got down to work. With this attitude, and more exposure and experience, their proposed new enterprise is bound to succeed,” he adds.
The Pink Painters are being assisted by Liz Sangion and Sindi Dastile of African Women Coordinated Investments (AWCI) to establish their new business.
