Growthpoint Properties has started building its 36 830m² Tecoma Park logistics hub in Cornubia Town, KwaZulu-Natal. This R392m project highlights Growthpoint’s commitment to expanding its logistics footprint in South Africa’s coastal metros, particularly in regions with strong property fundamentals.
Strategic investment in KwaZulu-Natal
Growthpoint’s KwaZulu-Natal portfolio, valued at R8.6bn, spans over 560 000m² across logistics, office, retail and healthcare properties. Estienne de Klerk, Growthpoint’s SA CEO, emphasised the province’s importance: ‘KwaZulu-Natal remains a core investment region for Growthpoint. High occupancy levels and sustained tenant demand across sectors give us confidence to continue investing here.’
The company’s strategy focuses on logistics and retail properties in key coastal metros like KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape. Currently, Growthpoint is investing R1.5 billion in various regional projects, including the R800m student accommodation near the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
A flagship logistics hub
Tecoma Park, set for completion in 2027, will offer premium A-grade logistics space. Located near Cornubia Mall, 12km from King Shaka International Airport, and 21km from Durban Harbour, it provides excellent connectivity to major transport routes and industrial precincts. Jason Reeves, Growthpoint’s head of asset management for logistics, noted, ‘This development addresses the growing demand for modern logistics facilities in KwaZulu-Natal.’
The park will feature eight flexible units ranging from 2 790m² to 5 264m², with options to combine spaces up to 10 000m². Designed for high-performance operations, the units will include integrated offices, efficient loading configurations, and modern architectural features. The masterplan ensures smooth traffic flow, safety, and operational efficiency with dedicated truck routes and optimised yard depths.
Sustainability
Sustainability is central to Tecoma Park’s design. Solar PV systems, energy-efficient lighting, and natural light optimisation will reduce energy consumption. Landscaped green spaces will enhance the working environment, aligning with Growthpoint’s commitment to environmentally responsible developments.
Tecoma Park represents Growthpoint’s confidence in the logistics sector and KwaZulu-Natal’s growth potential, offering future-ready, sustainable facilities tailored to evolving market needs. growthpoint.co.za
