Discovery delivers strong operating performance during pandemic

Adrian Gore, Discovery Group Chief Executive, today presented the Group’s full-year results for the period ended 30 June 2021 to the analyst community. Discovery posted a strong operating performance across the all businesses, despite the ongoing challenge of the COVID-19 environment which manifested in a far higher COVID-19-related mortality in South Africa, compared to its second primary market in the United Kingdom.

Santam, South Africa’s largest short-term insurer, today reported waht it terms "acceptable operating results for 2020"under very difficult economic circumstances, despite the negative impact of COVID-19. The group’s conventional insurance book achieved Gross Written Premium (GWP) growth of 5% (2019: 7%) and a net underwriting margin of 2.5% (2019: 7.7%), below the group’s target range of 4% to 8%.
