SAHPRA move to levy backlog fee is legally inappropriate

Recent statements by the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA), successor to the Medicines Control Council, saying it intends to levy a so-called ‘backlog fee’ must be viewed in the light of the provisions of the Medicines & Related Substances Act No. 101 of 1965, as amended.
