Prof Vernon Louw is Executive Head of the Department of Medicine at Stellenbosch University, a position he has held since February 2025. He is also an Honorary Adjunct Professor in Clinical Haematology at the University of Cape Town and serves as President of the South African Clinical Haematology Society. After graduating summa cum laude in Medicine and Internal Medicine from Stellenbosch University, he completed specialist training in Clinical Haematology at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium. An internationally recognised expert in patient blood management, Prof Louw chairs the Global Transfusion Forum, contributes to World Health Organization initiatives, and has authored over 140 peer-reviewed publications.

Dr Peter completed his MBBCh at Wits University and became a Fellow of the College of Physicians of South Africa in 2002. He obtained a sub-specialty certificate in Pulmonology in 2009. Currently, he serves as a principal specialist, physician, and pulmonologist at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, where he is also the clinical head of a unit in Internal Medicine.
