With a comprehensive background in both clinical practice and academia, Dr Pillay is dedicated to advancing the field of dermatology through research, education, and patient care.  Dr Pillay's educational journey began with an MBChB from the University of Pretoria, followed by specialisation in dermatology at Wits, where he completed his MMed Derm and earned the FC Derm (SA) qualification.   Professionally, Dr Pillay has held several key positions. Since June 2011, he has been the Head of the Department of Dermatology at Helen Joseph Hospital and Wits University, and a Consultant Dermatologist at Wits.   He also serves as the National Master Injector for Allergan and the National Trainer for Genop and Teosyal. Additionally, he is an active member of the South African Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and a national honorary lecturer and advisory board member for atopic dermatitis and psoriasis.  Dr Pillay's research contributions are substantial, with several publications to his name. He is currently working on atopic dermatitis consensus and guidelines for South Africa, and his publications can be found through a PubMed search. He supervises numerous MMed and PhD students at Wits University and is a sub-investigator for a Hidradenitis Suppurativa trial with Novartis. His regular contributions to journals and dermatology reviews reflect his dedication to advancing the field.  In the realm of teaching and outreach, Dr Pillay oversees the Registrar Dermatology Programme and teaches both undergraduate students and postgraduate programs at Helen Joseph Hospital and Rahima Moosa Hospital. He initiated outreach programmes at Rahima Moosa Hospital and started an aesthetic teaching programme for postgraduates. His influence extends beyond the classroom, as he frequently speaks on TV and radio about dermatology conditions and is part of the COVID-19 management committee for dermatology at Helen Joseph Hospital.  Dr Pillay is also deeply involved in professional organisations. He is a member of the International Vitiligo Society and the National Vitiligo Society and serves on the National Advisory Boards for psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. His expertise is regularly showcased at national and international dermatology congresses.  Among his many achievements, Dr Pillay was awarded the Wits Research Prize in 2010 and won the 1st Prize Poster Competition at the Wits University Postgraduate Day. He passed his primary exams in neurology at the University of Pretoria with Cum Laude honors.  His commitment to continuous learning is evident from his additional qualification as a private pilot.
