How to talk to patients about piles

Research shows that one in two South Africans will suffer from haemorrhoids at some point in their life. This is a mix of chronic, occasional and infrequent sufferers. The challenge with haemorrhoids is that this is an uncomfortable, embarrassing, and taboo discussion to have with anyone whether family, a doctor, or a pharmacist. Piles are hard to talk about and people find the subject matter embarrassing. Furthermore, a lack of conversation about piles can lead to consumer confusion and increased suffering.
