Dr Amith Ramcharan
Paediatric Endocrinologist
Dr Amith Ramcharan is a highly skilled paediatric endocrinologist based in Cape Town, South Africa, with over 15 years of experience in paediatric care. He obtained his medical degree (MBBCh) from the University of the Witwatersrand in 2004 and specialised in paediatrics, earning his FCPaed(SA) in 2011. Further sub-specialisation led to a Certificate in Endocrinology and Metabolism (SA) Paed in 2014.
Currently, Dr Ramcharan serves as a Consultant in Paediatric Endocrinology at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, where he manages complex endocrine disorders in children, including diabetes, growth disorders, and thyroid conditions. He also provides teaching and examiner roles for the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa. His previous roles include a Clinical Fellowship in Metabolic Medicine at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London and specialist positions at Stanger Regional and Edendale Hospitals.
An active academic, Dr Ramcharan has presented at numerous international conferences, including the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology and the Society for Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Diabetes of South Africa. He is committed to community outreach, having participated in humanitarian missions with Gift of the Givers in Somalia. Fluent in English, Hindi, and Afrikaans, he combines clinical expertise with a patient-centred approach to paediatric care.
