Prof Fiad graduated from the University of Tripoli in 1983. In 1985 he moved to Ireland to complete his medical training. He went completed his training as an endocrinologist, specialising in diabetes. Prior to joining the Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, he was Head of the Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Neurology at St George’s University School in England. He is a regular speaker at international congresses and during his long career, he has received numerous awards for his contributions to diabetes care. His current research interests include examining the efficacy and safety of liraglutide in patients with weight regain following bariatric surgery and examining the impact of applying the new American Heart Association/American college of cardiology lipid guidelines in unselected clinic population. Prof Fiad is also involved in examining the safety aspects of treatment with SGLT-2 inhibitors during Ramadan fasting and auditing glycaemic outcomes in subjects with T2DM being treated with the combination of GLP-1 RA’s and SGLT-2 inhibitors.

Prof Tsabedze completed his medical degree at Wits and subsequently specialised in internal medicine, obtaining his Fellowship with the College of Physicians of South Africa. He is an executive member of the Heart Failure Society of South Africa, and a founding and executive member of the South African Clinician Scientists Society.

He was a recipient of a prestigious Carnegie research grant, the South African Heart Association research award, and the South African Medical Association PhD scholarship in 2016.

Dr Tsabedze is passionate about teaching and training both undergraduate and postgraduate students. His research interests include acute and chronic heart failure epidemiology in sub-Saharan Africa, heart failure with preserved ejection fraction and hypertensive heart disease. He provides an engaging discussion navigating CV disease in diabetes.
