Dr Vinod Thomas

Dr Thomas is a renowned cardiologist and cardiac electrophysiologist based in Cape Town. He began his academic journey with a Bachelor of Science in Anatomy and Archaeology under Prof Phillip Tobias at the University of Witwatersrand, where he also earned his medical degree.  He completed his internship at Pietersburg Tertiary Hospital and community service at Elim District Hospital, gaining extensive training in various medical disciplines. Dr Thomas further enriched his experience as a medical officer in the United Kingdom, working in hospitals such as Portsmouth, Exeter, and Brighton National Health Systems Hospitals, where he gained exposure to multiple specialties.  In 2007, he returned to South Africa to specialise in internal medicine at the University of Cape Town (UCT). He completed his cardiology specialist training at Groote Schuur Hospital and received his Certificate of Cardiology from the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa in 2010.  In 2012, Dr Thomas accepted a fellowship in cardiac electrophysiology at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital in the United Kingdom, followed by a two-year fellowship at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute in Canada. He developed advanced skills in catheter heart ablation and managing complex arrhythmias, along with expertise in device implantation and follow-up.  Dr Thomas has received numerous accolades, including first prize at the North American Medtronic Fellow Arrhythmia Symposium and the Heart of Gold from the Ottawa Heart Institute. He continues to practice in South Africa, integrating his global experience to provide exceptional patient care.
