I am Dr. Barry Payne. I matriculated as a part of the De La Salle Holy Cross class of 1995, after completing my entire schooling from grade 0. I studied Medicine at the University of the Witwatersrand, completing my MBBCh degree in 2001. This was followed by a one-year internship at Pretoria Academic Hospital, and a further year of community service at Tintswalo Hospital (Mpumalanga) in 2003. On completion of my community service, I worked in the United Kingdom in various medical departments, but predominantly Accident and Emergency medicine from 2004 to 2006. In 2006 I returned to South Africa to specialise in Ophthalmology, again at the University of the Witwatersrand. After completion of my Ophthalmology specialization in 2010, I went into private practice in Johannesburg. I have consulting rooms in Saxonwold and operate at and am a shareholder in the Sandhurst Eye Centre. I am married to Olivia, and we have two young children, Matt, and Julia.
