Dr Dasoo is the national convenor of the Progressive Health Forum, an advocacy network of healthcare leaders from across the spectrum concerned with the state and responsiveness of health services in South Africa. He is the Executive Director of Health Equity Partners, a healthcare consultancy. A veteran of the healthcare sector, he participated in the development of health policy for a post-Apartheid South Africa and has held several appointments to key state and private sector institutions. He led the transformation of the medical schemes industry and was the founding CEO of the Board of Healthcare Funders of Southern Africa. He was appointed as Independent Chairman of the Board of Hospice Palliative Care Association in November 2021, which has led the restructuring of the organisation to meet the challenges and demands of a modernising sector and to orientate it to provide relevant and representative leadership to its affiliates and members.

Dr van Jaarsveld completed her medical studies at the University of the Free State in 1994. This was followed by an internship as well as five years in private practice combined with district surgery work in a rural Southern Free State town. During this period, many patients were diagnosed with HIV and there was no antiretroviral treatment available. She then joined the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of the Free State (UFS) and qualified as a specialist in clinical pharmacology in 2012. She joined the Department of Internal Medicine’s Division of Clinical Haematology (UFS) in 2013 and worked with the team to treat patients from the Free State, Northern Cape, and Lesotho, diagnosed with haematologic malignancies. During this period, Dr van Jaarsveld realised how little healthcare professionals understood about the palliative care needs of patients diagnosed with serious life-threatening diseases. She completed her post-graduate Diploma in Palliative Care in 2014 and in 2018 her MPhil in Palliative Care at the University of Cape. Dr van Jaarsveld is a board member of the Bloemfontein Hospice, and a member of the Palliative Care Practitioners Association of South Africa as well as Pain South Africa. She is regularly invited as a speaker at conferences and other academical lectures on palliative care and contributed to publications such as the palliative care guidelines in renal care as well as the standard treatment guidelines for primary and hospital level palliative care for South Africa. She works closely with the CEO of the Universitas Academical Hospital and Free State Department of Health (FSDoH) to implement palliative care structures for the Free State. Dr van Jaarsveld is currently employed by the FSDoH as a medical specialist in the Department of Oncology.
