A product using an innovative cooking bag solution from Sirane’s food packaging division has won first place in a UK competition, the Super Meat & Fish Awards 2015.
Tesco’s finest pulled pork shoulder in bourbon sauce is made by Cranswick Foods in the UK and uses Sirane’s oven cooking/roasting bag with an oak-flavoured wood chip sachet to season the food. The product won the top prize in the best pork or bacon product category.
Simon Balderson, Sirane’s MD comments: ‘Cranswick Foods has come up with a stunning product and it is no surprise to anyone at Sirane that it has won this sought-after award. The cooking bag technology allows the food to be sold in store in a very simple-to-use format, while the ‘smoking sachet’ really enhances the flavour.’
Mark Lingard, marketing manager of Sirane spoke to Food Review about the local application of the packaging innovation: ‘The product is perfect for things like pork, ham and seafood or any meat or fish that might benefit from a smoked flavour.’
He notes the bag’s construction allows the flavour to permeate the layer inside the bag, smoking the food while it cooks. ‘Cranswick Foods wanted an alternative to the straight BBQ/Oven bag in order to achieve a shelf life of at least 10 days. However, this format is oven only,’ he adds.
Sirane’s wood chip sachets are the latest additions to its Thinking-Cooking retail range. The product is available from Sirane’s South African sales office.
